Draft day sets the ceiling for your entire season. A bad draft is survivable — a great one gives you flexibility all year. Here is the framework that separates managers who cruise to the playoffs from those who are scrambling on waivers from Week 1.
Know your draft format
SNS uses a snake draft by default. Your pick order reverses each round, so the manager who drafts first in Round 1 picks last in Round 2. That means early picks are premium — use them on proven studs, not upside plays.
Build your roster from the top down
- Rounds 1–3: Elite RBs and WRs. QBs are abundant — do not reach early. Two locked-in starters at skill positions beats a flashy QB1.
- Rounds 4–6: Fill your second tier of starters. A TE1 if a clear top option falls, your QB if you haven't yet, and depth at RB/WR.
- Rounds 7–10: Upside. Target high-ceiling players in great offenses, sophomore breakout candidates, and backup RBs behind injury-prone starters.
- Rounds 11+: Streamers and handcuffs. Kickers and DEF go here — never earlier.
The positional rule of thumb
In a 10-team standard league, there are roughly 10 QB1s, 20 RB1/RB2s, and 30+ startable WRs. RBs are scarcer — prioritize them in the early rounds when your opponents are also targeting them. WR depth is more forgiving, especially in PPR formats.
Don't fall in love with a team
College fantasy is about individual player production, not team fandom. Draft the players who get the most volume in high-powered offenses, regardless of whether you like their school.
Quick-reference checklist
- Print or memorize your pre-draft rankings — do not draft blind.
- Know your league's scoring format before the draft. PPR changes values dramatically.
- Track your positional needs round by round — do not draft three QBs.
- Watch the board: if players you expected to be available disappear, adjust your tier rankings accordingly.
