Most managers build rosters to win now. The best managers build rosters to peak in Weeks 14–16. These are not always the same thing — and the difference often determines who lifts the trophy.
The playoff schedule audit
Several weeks before the trade deadline, audit every player on your roster for their playoff schedule. Look up their opponents in Weeks 14–16 and rank the matchup quality. A player with three winnable matchups in the postseason is worth significantly more than his current ADP suggests.
Target players with playoff advantages
- WRs facing bottom-third pass defenses in all three playoff weeks are gold.
- RBs on teams that project to be game-script favorites (scoring early, protecting leads, grinding the clock) will see elevated carry totals in the postseason.
- QBs in high-scoring playoff environments — dome games, late-season shootout programs — offer safe floors when it matters most.
The pre-deadline roster purge
Before the trade deadline, take inventory: who on your roster has a terrible playoff schedule? That player may be at peak trade value right now. Sell him to a manager chasing a playoff spot — they don't care about Weeks 14–16 yet.
Depth insurance in the playoffs
In the playoffs, you cannot absorb a single injury without it being devastating. Carry your handcuffs deeper into the season than feels comfortable. One key-player injury in Week 15 without a backup is how championship seasons end.
